FOH Case Study

As part of the Department of Health and Human Services, Federal Occupational Health (FOH) is the largest provider of Clinical, Employee Assistance and Environmental Health and Safety services to the Federal Government. Supporting more than 360 Federal Government departments and agencies, FOH’s mission is to improve the health, safety and productivity of the Federal workforce.

What is it?

FOH provides clinical services, emergency response, physical exams, immunizations and health risk appraisals. FOH helps agencies resolve environmental health issues, reduce job-related injuries and eliminate hazardous workplace conditions. The agency also conducts medical surveillance to ensure Federal employees can meet the physical demands of their jobs.

The Challenge

To be effective, FOH doctors, nurses, scientists and environmental specialists require 24x7x365 secure access to sensitive patient data, tracking systems, and email. This is especially true for many FOH employees who travel to remote locations to provide clinical or environmental assistance.

Solution

With personally identifiable data, sensitive employment records and credit card information
stored in FOH databases, confidentiality and encryption techniques are a key part of Truestone’s
FOH solution. In compliance with the Privacy Act, Truestone maintains encrypted Internet Protocol Security channels (IPSEC) and Pointsec encryption software for laptops and workstations.
In addition, Truestone manages the operations and IT infrastructure for FOH. We ensure security, high availability and continuity of operations (COOP) for:

  • 10 regional offices
  • 300 remote Health Centers
  • 700 private-provider physicians and nurses
  • 1,600 users
